Keiichiro Hayamizu was born in Kagoshima Prefecture and graduated from Tama Art University. He returned to his hometown of Kagoshima after graduation, where he continues to work and create today.
Hayamizu's works are crafted through a meticulous, hands-on process. His approach spans every phase of papermaking—from processing raw kōzo (Japanese mulberry bark used in traditional papermaking), through boiling, sheet forming, dyeing, and even letterpress printing. He incorporates materials such as lacquer, volcanic ash, and metal powders, applying and polishing them repeatedly over time. This time-consuming, labor-intensive approach results in truly one-of-a-kind pieces that embody both patience and precision.
